Why is this called the “royal science”?
To invoke angels, we must step out of the illusions meant to keep us small and powerless, and into our own inner sovereignty. Each of us becomes “royal”—a king or queen of our life.
This practice is a “science” because it is methodical, time-tested, and results-oriented. “Magick” is a lineage that goes back to ancient Sumeria and has been carried on throughout Western civilization.

Damien Echols
Damien’s wrongful conviction, sentencing, and eventual release as part of the West Memphis Three case is the subject of the documentaries Paradise Lost and West of Memphis. While in prison, Damien developed his practice of High Magick in the Western tradition, and today he is a prominent teacher of magick. He is the author of the New York Times bestseller Life After Death, Yours for Eternity (with his wife, Lorri Davis), High Magick, and Angels and Archangels.

Absolutely. Damien begins this course with a foundation in the practice of High Magick, which will introduce you to the terms and ideas you need to know in order to begin working with angels and archangels. No prior experience is required.
If you grew up in the West, you may even find the tradition of magick resonates with you in unexpected ways. And even if you have a spiritual practice already that arises from a different tradition, angels and archangels are not exclusive to any religion, philosophy, or spiritual path.
All that’s really required is an openness to learn and a dedication to sticking with your practice until it has time to bear fruit. Since angels are so willing to help us, that can happen sooner than you think!
High Magick is a dogma-free, results-oriented practice. As Damien teaches, angels and archangels don’t care about religion and don’t care if you believe in them or not. In fact, maintaining healthy skepticism is actually a valuable mindset for performing magick.
If you’ve had personal experiences with any religion that you think might somehow block you from working with angels, you’ve come to the right teacher. Damien’s own history gave him every reason to reject the very concept of angels. Here’s how he describes it:
“After being sent to death row by a Fundamentalist Christian community, I wanted nothing to do with anything remotely associated with the mindset of my persecutors. I viewed angels as an extension of the dogma people were attempting to use in justifying my murder. Never in a million years did I think that one day I would have a passion for the subject of angels that is unlike anything I’ve ever known before.”
Damien teaches that the physical world that we inhabit is every bit as divine, holy, and sacred as anything else. And calling on angels to help us meet our worldly needs is neither greedy nor selfish, provided we do so with our spiritual growth in mind.
This is why Damien advises following what he calls the “90-10” rule. This means, in his words, “Focus 90% of your practice on spiritual sustenance, and 10% on material sustenance.” If you maintain that balance, you’ll discover you actually have less and less need to manifest material things. Your life will begin to naturally fall into place as you grow into alignment with your life’s purpose. That’s the long-term goal of this path.
