Resilience: Transforming Any Adversity into Learning and Growth

Linda Graham, MFT
Psychotherapist, award-winning author

People can learn and grow from meeting the challenges and adversities of life—from a series of small annoyances, to the troubles and tragedies that break their hearts, to the utter catastrophes that change their lives forever—when they have the support, resources, and skills to do so. This session will explore how you can recover from tragedy and move into a new sense of your strengths, new possibilities, a clearer sense of meaning and purpose, and deeper connections with others. You’ll discover the five key factors for post-traumatic growth so you can bounce forward from any trauma or tragedy.

Session Highlights:

  • Understanding how family, friends, and community are important parts of resourcing
  • Recognizing the positive in the midst of the difficult and finding the gifts within mistakes
  • Developing a coherent narrative of traumatizing events within the context of a larger life story
  • Gaining the potential to appreciate a new life that emerges not just in spite of the difficulties but because of them

  • Lisa says:

These are amazing presentations I’ve been watching over the last four days, and in fact, as a trauma survivor, this “drinking out of the firehose” is both liberating and daunting. I just didn’t know there were so many resources available. Thank you!

    • SG says:

Your comment highlights how I’ve been feeling about the summit. It is far too much all at once to watch… to watch even half of it, honestly. I need days off in between watching them but can’t afford to buy ongoing access. I wish the format was more like every Thursday for ten weeks or something. And I’m in a good place! It’s just not material one can binge.

  • Maria Nelida says:

Muy agradecida a todos los profesionales y a Jeffrey Rustein por el nivel de excelencia académica y humana de cada presentación!

  • Maria says:

LInda Graham´s webinar presentation is delicate uplifting. Loved the quotations and to learn about her own quarantine experience. Her ABCDE will complement the PPP of resilience (trauma is not personal and it doesn´t need to be pervasive; nor permanent). Thank you.

  • Catherine says:

Thank you Arielle and Linda for uplifting teachings on resilience especially at this time of Covid, financial insecurity and racial injustice pain . I work with people with disabilities. Persons who grow up with disabilities are generally resilient and have taught me and other people with new disabilities how to move through life with new abilities and find joyful resilience. The first time I walked alone with a long white cane and read a joke in braille was a new set point for me. When I am struggling, I use those feelings as resources. Is there a good or positiveness living with disabilities? Yes ,we get to practice every moment. Cheers and lovingkindness.

  • Marti says:

Thank you for hosting this Summit. I have a diagnosis of complex trauma and I work with homeless women who likely have trauma.
