Today, Tara will lead you in a lovingkindness meditation to deepen self-acceptance and find freedom from false inner narratives of personal inadequacy.
Your assignment today is to do something enjoyable on your own for at least five minutes—purely to savor the pleasantness. If you feel inclined, share your experience with our Facebook community page!
What are the underpinnings of true compassion? How do we cultivate both a caring heart and a healthy mind? What are the key skills we need for maintaining happy relationships? These are some of the questions we explore in this interview with pioneering teacher Dr. Daniel J. Siegel.
Session highlights:
Daniel J. Siegel, MD, is a clinical professor of psychiatry at the UCLA School of Medicine; founding co-director of UCLA’s Mindful Awareness Research Center; founding co-investigator at the UCLA Center for Culture, Brain, and Development; and executive director of the Mindsight Institute, an educational center devoted to promoting insight, compassion, and empathy in individuals, families, institutions, and communities. Dr. Siegel’s books include his five New York Times bestsellers: Aware: The Science and Practice of Presence; Brainstorm: The Power and Purpose of the Teenage Brain; Mind: A Journey to the Heart of Being Human; and two books with Tina Payne Bryson, PhD: The Whole-Brain Child and No-Drama Discipline.

Birds wake up very earlier in the morning
we forget to be aware of the present, of all that we have right now.
Thoughts that brings feelings sensations to the body. Good ones and bad ones. Having awareness of or thoughts and feelings, good care of your physical body and good sleep. Because we are not trained by the society to have this awareness, we should live and act as machines pre programmed by the society judgment and rules
I so appreciate the neurobiological approach here. Science and emotion come together in the body/mind. “People can change their strategies of survival.” Such hope.
Further thought: this conversation sounds a great deal like Gestalt therapy and coaching.
It is hopeful!
What is mind ?Is intriguing to me ..is it just thinking ? Is it rationality ? Seem to not understand it fully ..it’s curiosity to know it more that leads me different books and practices .
We tend to get list in maize of thoughts and for me the Monkey actions of mind ..ie thoughts not just running flying ..Getting lost in them and many a times moving from here to thousand of miles ..some times getting overwhelmed some times caught up finding solutions for problems that don’t exist
I do understand what you are describing.
Peace!
