Today’s teaching session and guided meditation help us release blame and cultivate the empathy to move toward resolution and reconnection after conflict.
Today’s challenge is to reach out to someone with whom you’ve recently had a conflict—and have a conversation about it. Please tell us how it goes in our Facebook community.
Sandra Oh is a Canadian actress best known for her roles in Grey’s Anatomy and Killing Eve. In this interview, Sandra shares about the challenges she experienced as an Asian artist attempting to break through long-standing stereotypes, the connection between her spiritual practice and her creative pursuits, and how we can take refuge in presence during stressful situations and circumstances.
Session highlights:
Born and raised in Ottawa, Canada, Sandra Oh started ballet lessons at the age of 4 and appeared in her first play, The Canada Goose, at the age of 10. She started working professionally at age 16 in television, theater, and commercials. After three years at the prestigious National Theatre School of Canada, she beat out more than 1,000 other hopefuls and landed the coveted title role in the CBC telefilm The Diary of Evelyn Lau based on the true story of a tortured poet who ran away from home and ended up a drug addict and prostitute on the streets of Vancouver. Her performance brought her a Gemini (Canada’s Emmy) nomination for Best Actress and the 1994 Cannes FIPA d’Or for Best Actress.

Most of the time I stick to my meditation practice and breathing consciously. But there are times when I still react, because I feel I need to let my emotions go out. I rarely fight with others though, so it is more related to expressing my anger or frustration out loud and letting go of it. Once I do it, I can feel my breath changing and my mind calming down.
Thanks so much to Tara and to all her wonderful guests ! I already learned a lot during this challenge, I feel touched with everything we’re learning, as I open wider and my brain’s working a lot!
Just notice that subtitles are very useful for those who’re not native English speakers. For me, it really helps. Thank you again !
Are subtitles an option? I come from Denmark.
Thank you Sandra.
When Im stressed I too feel my feet and focus on the act of walking. The breath helps too.
I need to take time to embed a ritual practice in my life where I regularly check in with myself and be present
Thank you for reminding us.
Great sharing from Sandra and how to live with celebrity and yet stay grounded through spiritual practice and consciousness. Thank you!
Watching for old habitual patterns, first part of contact knowing what is present somatically, noticing stress, finding ground.
triggers might be behind this, worry…. noticing that no part if left out, stopping and coming back to the present moment.
also recognizing about if someone else is affected by me and working as a practice not to make it my business.
